The slaughtering and meat processing activities make a large volume of effluents, due to the large amount of water used during the production chain, this effluent has a high organic load and the potential to pollute the environment and must go through a treatment process before being returned to the environment.
The primary system is carried out by a physical-chemical process, with the addition of specific products for coagulation and flocculation of the effluent, and this process has the objective of removing the suspended solids present in the effluent.
The effluent treatment station installed at Frigorífico Ecofrigo has a flow rate of 130m³/h and the used system is divided into preliminary, primary, secondary and tertiary treatment.
The pre-treated effluent goes to the secondary system that has a biological route, consisting of an anaerobic stage, where there is the conversion of more complex compounds into simpler complexes, for later assimilation in the next aerobic stage, enabling the almost complete removal of the organic load and the ammonia nitrogen from the effluent.
The tertiary system is the final stage of the effluent treatment. In this stage the effluent that has already been treated in the previous stages is polished, guaranteeing and ensuring compliance with all the parameters required by municipal, state, and federal legislation for effluent discharge into receiving waters.
The standards obtained at the end of the treatment enable the reuse of this effluent in external cleaning processes, agricultural and gardening purposes.
